I recently did a post on 5 Great Work At Home Jobs-Not Just For Moms. I had a reader request a list of ESL jobs online. Since I am all about finding you legitimate jobs that you can do from home, I am fulfilling that request.
I researched ESL (English second language) jobs online from home. These are teachers tutoring English to children in other countries. Some may offer tutoring for other languages as well.
During my research I noticed there were some that required a degree as well as so many years of teaching or substitute teaching experience.
This will be part 1 of a 2 part post. For this post I will do ESL jobs online from home that do not require a degree or a certain amount of years experience. Part 2 will be the jobs that do require a degree and most likely some experience.
First Up Is SameSpeak
SameSpeak (samespeak is actually how the logo is written) tutors English to students. You must speak natural (primary language) English, and be at least 16 years or older. I wish I could have had a job like this at 16.
I was not able to find what teachers have said about their time at SameSpeak. Their blog page contained no blogs.
Samespeak, is conversational coaching English job as you do not need to meet any educational guidelines and there is no experience necessary.
You will need to register and be verified to be a coach. The actual website states that they have a surplus of coaches at the moment. When you register, they will notify you when verification resumes.
To me this sounds like it may be that you are able to register, but not be verified until they have matched students with other coaches that are waiting. You can still register and try one of the other jobs that I have listed. Who knows, maybe you can juggle 2 different teaching companies and make really good money.
I decided to post this because, the pay is $10 per 30 minute lesson. It isn’t as high or as low as some other sites, but you don’t need a degree or experience. And $10 for 30 minutes is a good rate to me. Some of the other site are $10 an hour.
There wasn’t as much information, like most of the other listings have. Below you can click on the picture and take a look to see if you might be interested. I didn’t see anything saying you had to know a specific language, other than English.
Coaching Material: made available to you once you have registered.
- Instructions appear in each lesson
- an instruction page is provided on the site
- an audio of a sample lesson is available
- contact admin@samespeak.com if you have any issues
Items you will need:
- Computer
- Headset with microphone
- HIGH SPEED internet (dial up and satellite will not work)
- Skype account: you will need to use the free test calling service
- PayPal account: if you are under 18, you will need a parent or guardian to sign up for Paypal account for you
Your students will be in a school/educational environment. They will learn by hearing you (the conversational coach) live presenting the lesson.
If hired, you will get paid every Friday. You need to have at least $100.00 in your account. If you have less than that you will need to make a special request to release the payment, which takes 3 to 5 business days to show up in your account.
Next Stop Is Cambly
Cambly is set up differently. Now mind you, these companies all set out to find learners (those wishing to learn to speak English) an English tutor.
Cambly offers its learners 24/7 access to speakers (tutors) through video chat. Cambly’s students speak over 30 different languages. Their students are from 130 countries.
When I went to their job search, I clicked on the first one which the location was Japan. Not thinking anything about it, I just clicked on it. I got a little nervous when I saw that it wasn’t written in English.
But luckily there was a text translator that popped up. Thank goodness, or I would have just had to find another ESL company to research.
After it was translated, I backed out of the site because it was not a tutoring job. I typed in my search bar Cambly tutor jobs.
Finding a good amount of information was a challenge. I was looking to see what tutors had to say so I checked on Indeed, although I am not to impressed with the service of indeed, I did screenshot a review of a Cambly employee,

Employee review on Cambly
Cambly pays $0.17 a minute ($10.20 an hour). You will be paid via PayPal every Monday. It isn’t much more than samespeak. Cambly tracks your time that is spent with your student. It is said they PAY on time and also have bonuses.
Teaching here is more like online chat. If you are a caring and genuine people person and make a good impression on your student then chances are they will want to keep talking with you. This leads to you getting more pay. It will also lead to better reviews for you which will lead to more students requesting you as there tutor.
Cambly states you can work whenever you want. When you are ready to work just log in and you will be receiving calls with in minutes.
You will chat with people all over the world. How cool is that? You will be able to learn from your students as well. No experience is needed with this company either.
I couldn’t get any further. When I clicked get started to finish my research, I was prompted to sign up or login with my Facebook.
Once you are logged in, it will bring up a screen that test your internet speed. I knew it was over for me. The area I live we can only get satellite internet. Video chatting or computer to computer calling will not work with satellite.
If you don’t have HIGH SPEED internet then I wouldn’t waste my time applying for any of these jobs. They rely on video chatting. Any time you will be using some type of video, you have to have packet loss to do it.
If you have high speed internet and would like to check out Cambly, just click on the picture below.
Our Next Stop Is Tutlo
Tutlo (pronounced toot low) only expects you to know English. No need to know any other language. You do not need a degree OR any experience.
Once you fill out the application, you only have to wait 2 business days to know whether you were accepted or not. That is unless it is a holiday of course.
For this one you have to be at least 18 years of age or older. You just need to have the passion for teaching others English and a good conversationalist.
You of course need reliable high speed internet and a computer OR any device with a web cam. Yes you heard that right.
The platform they have is designed easy enough for beginners to be able to teach. Not sure how to conduct a class, don’t worry they have material to help you with topics for any level as well as conducting a lesson.
The pay is $11.00 for 60 minutes. You will get paid weekly and a PayPal account is their only payment method. The pay isn’t as good, but for those of you who really have an interest in teaching ESL online from home with no degree.
There is a perfect opportunity to build up your experience so that you can apply for one of the better paying jobs down the road.
You can set your own schedule. You shouldn’t have to worry about them having more teachers than students. They will have plenty of students if they are only paying $11.00 for an hour. They are probably not charging the students as much as other programs like this.
To apply for Tutlo just click on the picture below. You will be required to record a video introducing yourself. If you have no experience I would suggest you use this to convince them of your capability to perform this job.
Now Arriving At PalFish
By clicking on PalFish above, you will need to enter your phone number to proceed. This one wasn’t as easy to get information on as the others.
This one is based off of a mobile app that you download from Google play store. I am hoping to be able to give you enough information without having to apply personally. I don’t work for these places, I just try to find you a good job.
They are different as you can set your own price to get paid. Mind you now, that doesn’t mean you can start out charging $20.00 (an hour) per lesson.
Again, you don’t have a degree or experience, so you definitely want to start your price low until you get good reviews rolling in.
Teachers typically charge $10.00 to $18.00 dollars per hour. Some are as high as $20.00 to $30.00 per hour. They either have degrees, certificates and or experience. The good news is that the minimum is $10.00 per hour.
PalFish will hire native and non-native tutors. It is said there are many ways to earn money with them. One is teaching languages other than just English.
You can also earn money by charging a fee when a student ask you a question and you answer it. If you don’t answer the question you do not get paid. You are also allowed to accept donations. Hmm. I am assuming this is due to performing free lessons in order to get followers to be trusted or seen as a quality teacher.
I am not sure about PalFish “hiring” you as it is suggested that once you get the app, download it and set everything up, you should do free classes until you have enough followers and the confidence in being able to provide lessons the students or parents will want to pay for. Hence, the reason you want to start out with a low price.
I wasn’t able to get as much information as I had wanted. Hopefully I did get enough for you to decide if it was worth you checking on.
Here is the link to for google where you need to download the app. If It is not compatible, they do now have an application for a computer or laptop as well.
I am including another link that is from a teacher who wrote a review about PalFish. I was not able to message him nor leave a comment to find a legitimate website, and to ask him questions in regard to this company.
We Have Come To The End For Now
This was a little tougher than I had anticipated. I cam across quite a few that were not hiring, or you needed a degree as well as experience in. I will be providing a post with the ESL sites that you need a degree for in my next post.
ESL tutoring seems to be very popular. I cam across a couple that provide multiple languages for anyone to learn. I even cam across a couple that helped business with employees who spoke different language than the employer.
If you didn’t find anything of interest, please keep checking back. I am dedicated to helping you in your search for that work from home job opportunity.
As with any other jobs online, ESL jobs online from home aren’t for everyone. It isn’t for me. But I have a job I love, and I work for myself and for you. I love my job.
If you would like to try your hand at having your own business that you can try absolutely free, then I will be glad to help you with that as well.
You will be provided the tools and training needed to get your business rolling. The best part is, you can start your own at home business opportunity based off of something you love doing.
No matter if it is body building or farming. You can start a business based on that. You can just write short stories or freelance writing. The possibilities are endless.
I feel like I owe you a free try at something I believe in. Someone offered it to me and since then I have been building this site to help others find a job or help them build their own business ever since.
If you have worked for any of the places in this post I would love to hear about your experience. If you know anything I may have wrong or that I may have missed with the jobs posted here, please do let me know in a comment below.
